I like #214

Welcome to another week of things to like.  At some point I promise to blog about some art quilts I've been working on, I have one major one finished I haven't shared and another almost finished, but I just haven't been organized enough to get things together to do a post.

Some cool things from this week:

I love these fantastically colorful mosaic street/sidewalk repairs.  What a fantastic and artistic way to bring some little patches of joy to some fairly colorless areas.  I love that the artist Ememem is known as the pavement surgeon!

I love the math/science nerdy comic XKCD  and this one from this week made me laugh.  Having 19th century authors or martian soil chemistry show up in your classroom would definitely be weird but good, and volcanology or quasar astronomy showing up in the classroom would definitely be weird and bad.  I love the XKCD classifications!

I love my pups (duh) and my flowers!

Bentley did not want to look at the camera.

Spooky is a (wonderful loveable) dork.

My friend Brett came over with his dog Cash last night to play with Spooky.  I think Cash must be Spooky's long-lost long-haired twin brother :)  He's super super sweet. He's not sure about super bouncy licky friends (ahem Spooky), but they did really great last night.

I've been working on my armadillo quilt, there's not much time left to finish it and lots to still do, but one of the things from this week was painting all these rubber stoppers.  They were black stoppers with holes in them from the lab, but we had hundreds and hundreds we never ever used, so I rescued some from a drawer during the move and painted them bright colors.  I'm going to stitch them to the quilt.

I Like #213

Welcome to another week of things to like.  I was excited to get to go to Anna's dance recital and piano recital this weekend.  She did great at both and it was super fun to get to see her and spend some time playing with both kids.  And of course the dogs had a blast.  Lots of running and playing and rumpusing.  All five do so well together, and Bentley mostly stays out of the way as the other four careen around the yard.

We also had lots of fun playing with the rats- they're so sweet.  But it's nearly impossible to take a picture of them while they're out playing, so here's one of them sniffing.  Super cute!!

I like knitting!  I finished kniting another pair of ankle socks this week.  I like these short socks for the warmer part of the year.  This pink yarn was leftover from another project (my Deco Drape shawl) and I had almost enough to finish the socks!  I love using up scraps.  I used the Jelly Roll sock pattern but just did a single cuff since I wasn't sure how much yarn I had. They knit up pretty quick!

I like my quilts! I also finally got all the quilts hung up in my new office.  I have more wall space than my old office (since I lost all my windows) so I brought a bunch more quilts from home.  At least I have super fun bright colors!

I like my flowers!  It's been a very cool wet spring here so my garden is not growing nearly as well as I'd like.  Lot's of stuff hasn't come up and I'm afraid many of my bulbs may have rotted.  But some stuff is growing! I have a handful of blackberries peeking out.

And my annual pots are doing well.  I planted some salvia this year since I had such a hard time finding petunias at first, and it's lovely too.

And here's a Spooky for you.  He thinks he's going to get a bit of cookie. :)

I Like #212

Welcome to another week of things to like. This was a very productive week, one of those keep your head down and get-things-done sort of weeks.  I'm still behind, but it does feel good to have made a lot of progress on a bunch of things that had been on my list for far too long.

Lots of long days at work during the week, and long days in the studio this weekend, with lots of puppy snuggles in the evening.

A new-to-me artist this week is Wayne Tsay (via).  I love his beautiful color sense.  The pictures of cats are just wonderful.

There is a small cow in a piece I am working on right now, and I was excited to make some progress on him this week.  I'm using vintage doilies a lot in this project, hand stitching them on.  Here they were supposed to be black spots on my cow, but I think it looks like she's wearing a face veil and jelly shoes :)

The pups are as snuggly as ever.

Spooky on my lap, with Blue on one side and Bentley on the other.  The best snuggles.

Welcome to another week of things to like!

The best thing about this week is that my sister and some very good friends and I took a post-vaccination girls weekend to Universal Studios to see Harry Potter World.  It was so wonderful to go to places in person again!  We are all big Harry Potter fans and we didn't go to Universal when we went to Disney World with the family a couple of years ago so it was all new and fun.  We also spent a day at Disney Hollywood studios to see the fabulous Star Wars world there.  It was such a great break. Such a blessing to see friends in person I haven't seen in well over a year.

The whole Harry Potter Hogwarts/Hogsmeade/Diagon Alley areas at Universal were just amazing.

The pups all stayed at my sister's with her husband and kids, but here's a picture of Spooky tugging on my skirt yesterday.  Such a love!

It was so nice to have a mental break for a few days.  Things here are still chaotic, but my brain is in a calmer place now at least!  Click over to LeeAnna's for more things to like!
